Reversal of Fortune. Indian-born immigrant philanthropists in the greater Boston area supporting domestic and India-based projects.  Desh Deshpande, founder of Cascade Communications and Al Kapoor of Millennium Ventures are featured as part of the American India Foundation fundraiser (Nov. 20, 2008)

India’s 40 Richest. Description of India’s top 40 wealthiest and the drop of their net-worth due to the global financial crisis.  Many are also philanthropists including, Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro outsourcing giant.  Mr. Premji had a net worth of $12.7 billion which made him the 60th richest man in the world according to the Forbes 2008 list of billionaires  The Azim Premji Foundation works in the areas of elementary education to pilot and develop ‘proof of concept’ that have a potential for systemic change in India’s 1.3 million government-run schools.  The Foundation focuses on working in rural areas where the majority of these schools exist.  With Wipro stock falling 44% in the past year, how will this affect his philanthropy? Keep Giving Despite Crisis. Hong Kong’s top civil servant, Chief Secretary for Administration, Henry Tang Ying-yen urged people to continue to be generous during the economic downturn.  Drivers and construction workers are the hardest hit by the crisis because of factory closure in the mainland.
